Bheaga ag siúl i nGearrbhaile!
I would like to share some information that will help your child
for the year ahead:
Labels – Please label your child’s
jumpers and coats to avoid them getting lost and time being wasted
on discovering the owner.
Shoes - Only Velcro shoes please. Shoes with
laces are constantly opening ,get dirty and are dangerous as children
trip on them.
Junior faber castell pencils – These are
the best pencils for early grip development. They do not break
easily so there is less time wasted sharpening pencils.
Homework – It is best done after school
and with no distractions e.g television. Go through what needs
to be done with your child and encourage good work habits e.g
neat work and making sure all the work is completed written work
Letter and number formation – Please ensure
your child has a good pencil grip and forms his /her letters and
numbers properly e.g for the letter ‘h’ you must start
at top and go down.
Oral language – Help expand your child’s
language skills by discussing and describing pictures and stories
at story time e.g ‘What is happening in the picture?, What
do you think will happen next? Rhymes and songs are also great
for developing language skills . Encourage your child to use their
Gaeilge by asking them to share their poems and songs they have
learned and asking them ‘what is the Irish for dog?’
I hope this proves useful, if you have any queries during the
year ahead let me know.
